The Institute is estimated to accommodate 808 persons.

The majority of the inmates are male subjected to educational discipline 
that were submitted by police offices in cities or counties at south of 
Taichung County, Taitung County, Penhu County, Kinmen County and 
Lianjiang County.

The affiliated Dongcheng Branch of Taitung Prison accommodates male
inmates subjected to educational discipline as well as male inmates with
 sentence under seven years.
